Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute
-
Located in New York City, USA, the Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute (SCCI) originated in 1977 under the official endorsement and involvement of Congresswoman Chisholm herself. In its early years, Congresswoman Chisholm relied on the SCCI, a diverse network of women, to stay connected with the community and its issues. Today, the SCCI is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm by blending the initiatives from her public service career with 21st-century activism and innovation. Offering cultural experiences to youth, the SCCI champions meaningful expression, social justice, and economic sustainability.
Through collaborations with frontline communities and the cultivation of strategic relationships with leaders in government and mainstream organizations, the SCCI is committed to fostering positive and impactful change.

As the lead graphic designer and design consultant for the SCCI, a wide array of materials was produced quickly and effectively, which included:
All collateral material supporting an art event named “REVEALED” hosted by SCCI located at the World Trade Centre Oculus and featuring prominent artist Al Johnson
Various social and digital designs, including static and video assets promoting the event
A full website refresh from the ground up using a CMS platform. This included incorporating the new brand, working tirelessly with the management team of the SCCI to rework the site architecture for maximum engagement and best user experience, ensuring the site was AODA compliant, expanding existing pages where required, as well as providing recommendations as needed. This website will be launched in the coming weeks to coincide with the SCCI’s centennial celebration of Shirley’s 100th birthday.
